Mackenzie Schoustra won her second-straight conference title in the pentathlon, as the St. Olaf College women's track and field team went 1-2-4 in the event on the opening day of the 2020 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday at the Donald McNeely Spectrum.
Schoustra won the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, and 800 meters, in addition to second-place showings in the shot put and long jump, to rack up 3,316 points and win the pentathlon for the second year in a row. Senior
Emily Bohlig was second with 3,156 points and first year
Rebekah Salfer took fourth with 2,862 points, with both totals ranking on St. Olaf's all-time top-10 list in the event.
Schoustra started the day by winning the 60-meter hurdles in 9.46 seconds before claiming the high jump by clearing 1.58 meters. After second-place finishes in the shot put (9.77m) and long jump (5.04m), the senior entered the final event with an eight-point lead on Bohlig and wrapped up the title with a personal-best time of 2:29.09 in the 800 meters.
Bohlig won the shot put (10.06m) and long jump (5.17m) as part of a day that included four top-three event finishes. The senior's personal-best score of 3,156 points moved her into sixth place on St. Olaf's all-time list in the pentathlon.
Salfer slotted into 10th in program history with her personal-best score of 2,862 points. The first year recorded a PR by nearly one meter in the shot put (9.62m) and added one in the 800 meters (2:35.14) on her way to a third-place result in the final event of the day.
The second day of the MIAC Championships begins with field events at 4 p.m. and track events at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28 in Collegeville.
