Men's soccer breaks into United Soccer Coaches Top 25 for first time since 2015

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The St. Olaf College men's soccer team broke into the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 for the first time since 2015 by checking in at No. 22 in the latest poll released on Tuesday afternoon.

St. Olaf cracked the top 25 after posting wins over two of the top-three ranked teams in the region last week, as the Oles picked up a 3-2 double-overtime victory at Luther on Tuesday and knocked off then-No. 22 Carleton by a 3-1 score on Saturday. The two wins extended St. Olaf's winning streak to six games and its unbeaten streak to seven games.

Prior to Tuesday, the last time the Oles were ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 was Dec. 8, 2015 when St. Olaf was slotted No. 15 in the postseason poll  after advancing to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Tuesday's announcement marked the 29th time in the poll's archives – which date back to 1998 – that St. Olaf has been ranked in the top 25 nationally by the organization.

Head coach Travis Wall's team is off to its best 10-game start to a season (8-1-1) since 2011 and is one of two Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) teams ranked in the top 25 this week. Gustavus remained at No. 19 in this week's poll.

In this week's edition of the D3soccer.com Men's Top 25, St. Olaf continued to sit just outside the top 25, receiving 40 votes. The Oles were also ranked No. 2 in Region IX – behind only Gustavus – this week by the United Soccer Coaches.

St. Olaf is currently among the nation's top teams in a number of statistical categories, ranking tied for ninth in assists (27), tied for 11th in goals (34), 12th in points (95), tied for 12th in assists per game (2.70), 14th in goals per game (3.40), and tied for 14th in goal differential (+23).
