NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Junior
Annika Muller broke the school record in the triple jump to highlight the St. Olaf College women's track and field team's team win at the Carleton Triangular on Friday evening.
Muller entered the evening second on St. Olaf's all-time list in the event with a jump of 11.12 meters (36' 5 ¾"), trailing the record set by
Paige Woldt '20 by one inch. On her third jump of the night, Muller jumped to the top of the list with a mark of 11.17 meters (36' 7 ¾"), which won the event and ranks 25th in the country this season.
The win was one of five event victories for St. Olaf, which won the meet with 237 points. Carleton was second with 176 points, followed by Hamline with 115, and St. Thomas with 17 from a small contingent of competitors.
Despite not winning the event, senior
Ellen Mickelson turned in one of the top performances in the country this season in the mile, finishing as the runner-up to Carleton's Clara Mayfield – who ran the fastest time in the country and set both the school and facility record with a time of 4:53.68 – with a time of 5:02.78. The time ranks fifth in NCAA Division III this season and sixth on St. Olaf's all-time list.
Sophomore
Ali Seaton ran a top-20 time in the country in the 800-meter run, crossing the line in 2:22.43 to finish a second and a half behind Mayfield. First years
Alison Bode and
Sofia Carlson went 1-2 in the 5,000 meters with times of 18:28.73 and 18:38.30, respectively.
Also on the track, sophomore
Julia Everest won the 3,000-meter run by nearly three seconds with a time of 10:48.94 and sophomore
Karla Kroschel won the 200-merer dash in 27.52 seconds. Kroschel was one of four Oles in the top five in the event.
In addition to her school record and event win in the triple jump, Muller placed second in the long jump (5.35m, 17' 6 ¾") to better her third-best mark in program history in the event. Sophomore
Ainslee Parker was the runner-up to Muller in the triple jump (10.34m, 33' 11 ¼").
Four Oles either improved their standing on St. Olaf's all-time list or broke into the top 10 in field events on the night. Junior
Teresa Pettitt-Kenney and sophomore
Melanie Roberts moved into a tie for 10th in program history in the pole vault by clearing 2.92 meters (9' 7"), sophomore
Aleah Keske rose two spots to eighth in the weight throw (12.16m, 39' 10 ¾"), and sophomore
Sam Hedtke jumped to seventh in the shot put (11.94m, 39' 2 ¼") by winning the event.
St. Olaf hosts Bethel, Gustavus, and Saint Mary's in the St. Olaf Code Quad & Multi on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 28-29. Per St. Olaf policy, no fans are able to attend the meet due to venue limitations and the number of competing student-athletes, coaches, and officials.
