Oles split swim/dive duals at Saint Ben's and Saint John's

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's and women's swimming and diving teams split their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) duals against the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University on Friday evening at Warner Palaestra Pool.

In their first conference duals of the season, the St. Olaf women won 10 events on their way to a 158-141 victory over Saint Ben's, while the men got three first-place finishes from senior Tim Rizzo in a 201.5-94.5 loss to Saint John's.

Rizzo won all three individual events he entered for the second meet in a row to start the season, claiming the 500-yard freestyle (4:51.60), the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.79), and the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.95). First year Aiden Yung added a pair of runner-up finishes for the Oles in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:52.64) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.15).

Junior Izzy Treanor – the reigning MIAC Women's Diving Athlete of the Week – recorded wins in both of the diving events for St. Olaf, winning the one-meter board (252.95) and three-meter board (249.80) competitions by over 40 points. Senior Annika Cleven also won two events, touching the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.11) and 200-yard butterfly (2:20.11).

Junior Tatum Hauck and sophomore Lexi Cucchiaro posted 1-2 finishes in both the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle, as Hauck won the 200 free (2:01.46) and Cucchiaro took the 500 free (5:29.48). St. Olaf also got first-place finishes from junior Charlotte Thomson in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:12.41), senior Allison Purdum in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.67), and first year Paige Steenblock in the 200-yard individual medley (2:16.27).

The Ole women also won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:54.37 with the quartet of Hauck, Purdum, Cleven, and sophomore Ellen Varley.

Both teams head to Gustavus Adolphus College for their second-straight MIAC duals on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 11 a.m.
