Brown '15 wraps up Olympic experience with three more events

BEIJING, China – Former St. Olaf College men's cross country, track and field, and Nordic skiing standout Jake Brown '15 concluded his performances at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics by competing in the 10-kilometer sprint, 12.5-kilometer pursuit, and 4x7.5-kilometer relay at the Zhangjiakou National Biathlon Center over the last week.

After posting a USA-best 28th-place finish in the 20-kilometer race in his first event as an Olympian, Brown was again the top American male finisher in the 10-kilometer sprint (36th) and 12.5-kilometer pursuit (40th), while also helping the Americans to a 13th-place finish in the relay.

On Saturday, Brown shot clean from prone and had two penalties standing on his way to a 36th-place finish in the 10-kilometer sprint (26:04.7) to qualify for the pursuit. The top-60 finishers in the sprint achieved pursuit qualification on Sunday.

In the 12.5-kilometer pursuit, Brown had six penalties and finished 6:06.6 back of gold medalist Quentin Fillon Maillet of France with a time of 45:14.1 to place 40th. To wrap up the games, Brown and his compatriots braved frigid temperatures and stiff winds to post a 13th-place finish in the 4x7.5-kilometer relay (+5:42.8) on Tuesday.

The former three-sport All-American qualified for the U.S. Biathlon Team in December by virtue of his 23rd-place finish in the men's 20-kilometer individual event in Oestersund, Sweden on Nov. 27. He is St. Olaf's third-ever Olympian, joining Lloyd Ellingson and Andy Erickson. Ellingson was a member of the U.S. ski team at the 1932 Lake Placid Winter Games, while Erickson competed for Team USA in the biathlon at the 1998 Nagano Winter Games.
