WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Senior Ellen Mickelson of the St. Olaf College women's track and field team placed 12th in the one-mile run at the 2022 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at JDL Fast Track.

Mickelson placed 12th in the field of 20 competitors with a time of 5:02.03 in the prelims after placing sixth in the first heat. The top-four finishers in each heat plus the next two fastest times qualified for the finals. Mickelson's time would have been good for fourth in the second heat.

The three-time national qualifier in track and field was competing at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships for the first time in her career. She previously qualified for the indoor national meet in 2020 before the meet was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mickelson also placed ninth in the 1,500-meter run at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in 2021.

St. Olaf turns its attention to the outdoor season, which begins with the Luther Invitational on Saturday, April 9 in Decorah, Iowa.
