BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Senior defensive specialist/libero
Selena Rodriguez of the St. Olaf College volleyball team was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time in her career on Monday afternoon.
Rodriguez recorded 57 digs (4.75 per set) over St. Olaf's three matches at the Region IX Invitational this past weekend at Bethel University, while also adding four aces and 14 assists. The senior was previously honored as the MIAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week twice as a sophomore in 2020-21 and once as a junior in 2021.
On Friday, Rodriguez had 19 digs, five assists, and two aces in St. Olaf's five-set win over Wartburg College, which was receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25. The win over the Knights was the first for the Oles since 2010 and broke Wartburg's run of 10-straight victories in the series. The St. Paul product followed that up with 15 digs in a three-set loss to Cornell College and 23 digs, a season-high-tying eight assists, and one ace in a four-set loss to Bethel, which also received votes in the national poll this week.
Rodriguez currently ranks fourth in the MIAC with an average of 4.83 digs per set, which is the highest mark of her career.
St. Olaf hosts the College of St. Scholastica in its MIAC and home opener on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at Skoglund Center.
