St. Olaf advanced to the "Final Four" for the first time in program history with wins over UW-Superior and No. 12-ranked Carleton College at home and UW-Eau Claire and the No. 21-ranked University of Chicago in Chicago. The four wins brought the Oles' all-time record in the NCAA Tournament to 12-8-1 in their 10th appearance in the field (1984, 1992, 1998, 1999, 2009, 2011, 2015, 2021, 2022, 2023). The team's appearance in the "Final Four" marks just the second time a St. Olaf team has advanced to the national semifinals of a 64-team, bracket-style NCAA Championship event (volleyball – 1996).

Washington is also in the national semifinals for the first time after getting past four nationally-ranked teams to earn a spot among the final four. The Shoremen topped No. 25-ranked Otterbein University and eliminated No. 17-ranked Kenyon College 5-4 in penalties before posting 1-0 victories over the second-ranked University of Mary Washington, and seventh-ranked Connecticut College. This year marks just the second NCAA Tournament appearance for Washington, which advanced to the "Sweet 16" in 2021 before bowing out with a 2-1 loss to seventh-ranked Tufts University.
