ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Senior
Christine Albrecht broke the meet record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to lead the St. Olaf College women's track and field team's performances on day two of the Oles' runner-up finish at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Bethel University's Royal Stadium.
Albrecht won her first individual conference title by easily outpacing the field in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking in at 10;37.35 to break the meet and school records in the event. Albrecht's performance was one of five All-MIAC results on the day for St. Olaf, which was second in the team standings with 143 points. Gustavus Adolphus College won the team title with 154.5 points.
Albrecht won the 3,000-meter steeplechase by over 30 seconds, taking down the previous meet record of 10:37.58 by Carleton College's Ruth Steinke by just over two seconds and the school record of 10:54.36 set by Jena Moody in 2018 by over 17 seconds. The senior is St. Olaf's third conference champion in the event since 2017, joining Moody in 2017 and Lisa Fisher in 2019. First year
Grace Moeller earned Honorable Mention All-MIAC laurels in fourth (11:20.98) to better her sixth-best time on St. Olaf's all-time list in the event.
Senior
Rebekah Salfer secured All-MIAC honors in both of the hurdle events, taking third in the 100-meter hurdles (14.83) and the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.04). The senior's time in the shorter event broke the previous school record of 14.94 seconds set by Becky Peterson in 2004, while the latter time moved Salfer up from eighth to fourth on St. Olaf's all-time list.
Junior
Karla Kroschel posted the top finish of her career at a conference meet and grabbed All-MIAC honors with a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash (58.56), while sophomore
Alison Bode claimed All-MIAC honors in the 5,000-meter run with a third-place showing of her own in 17:07.99. Bode was one of three Oles to score in the event along with classmate
Sofia Carlson (5th, 17:50.80, HM All-MIAC) and junior
Bella Call (8th, 17:55.24).
After placing second in the shot put on Friday, junior
Aleah Keske landed in the honorable mention slots in the discus throw in fourth (38.53m, 126' 5"), rising four spots in the fourth round after sitting eighth through the first three rounds. Senior
Annika Muller jumped to a fifth-place result in the triple jump (11.22m, 36' 9 ¾") to pick up Honorable Mention All-MIAC honors.
Kroschel was part of two other honorable mention performances, placing sixth in the 200-meter dash (26.20) and joining junior
Ruth Pfeiffer, sophomore
Zoe Matre, and junior
Ququ Holman on the fifth-place 4x100-meter relay (49.78). Pfeiffer, Salfer, junior
Olivia Edstrom, and sophomore
Emma Storbakken took sixth in the 4x400-meter relay (4:02.46) for another honorable mention finish.
St. Olaf has one last chance to qualify individuals for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the UW-La Crosse Final Qualifier on Thursday, May 18.
