JANESVILLE, Wis. – After holding a one-shot lead through round one, the St. Olaf College men's golf team finished third at the Culver's Edgewood College Fall Classic on Saturday at Glen Erin Golf Club.
St. Olaf held a one-shot lead after shooting its lowest round (290) since 2010 on Friday but had to settle for third after posting a 297 (+13) in Saturday's second round. UW-Stout trailed the Oles by one shot entering the second round but claimed the team title by an eight-shot margin, as St. Olaf finished one shot back of second-place Lake Forest College.
Senior
Tyler Leibl recorded the best finish of his career by tying for sixth with a one-over 143 over the two rounds after carding a team-best 72 (+1) on Saturday. Leibl was just three shots behind individual medalist Carter Ruegsegger of the University of Dubuque.
Junior
Josh Sansom was just one shot behind Leibl and joined his teammate in the top 10 by tying for ninth with a two-day 144 (+2) following a three-over 74 in round two. First year
Quinn Nevell recorded a top-30 finish in his first collegiate tournament by tying for 28th with a 150 (+8), while sophomore
Isaac Schmidt rose up the leaderboard with a second-round 74 (+3) to tie for 32nd (151, +9).
St. Olaf competes at the Minnesota Golf Classic on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 9-10 at Pioneer Creek Golf Course in Maple Plain.
