ELK RIVER/RAMSEY/LE SUEUR, Minn. – In its final tournament before the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championships, the St. Olaf College men's golf team finished 14th of 17 teams at the three-day Twin Cities Classic held Saturday through Monday at three different courses.
Led by senior
Tyler Leibl, St. Olaf compiled a team score of 918 (+62) over the 54-hole event to finish one shot behind Augsburg University in the team standings. The Oles improved their score each day, posting totals of 317 (+29), 301 (+13), and 300 (+20) and were 14th after each of the three days.
Leibl was the top finisher for the Oles by tying for 26th place with consistent round totals of 76 (+4), 74 (+2), and 75 (+5) to shoot an 11-over-par 225 for the tournament. The senior carded a team-high nine birdies over the three rounds, including four on a two-under-par 34 on the front nine on Saturday at Elk River Golf Club.
After an opening-round 83 (+11), first year
Ike Vessey shot up the leaderboard on Sunday with a 73 (+1) that was one shot shy of his low round of the season before finishing in a tie for 58th (232, +18). Vessey's 73 at The Links at Northfork included 13 pars, three bogeys, and two birdies.

Josh Sansom, senior
Leonardo Acerbi, and sophomore
Isaac Schmidt were separated by just two shots in a tie for 64th (233, +19), a tie for 67th (234, +20), and a tie for 69th (235, +21), respectively, with Acerbi competing as an individual. Sansom played the par fives at five-under-par to tie for sixth in the field in par-five scoring, while Schmidt put together the Oles' low round of the day on Monday at LeSueur Country Club with a one-over 73, highlighted by an eagle on 16, to move up 15 spots.
The three-day MIAC Championships will be held at Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove from Saturday, Sept. 30 through Monday, Oct. 2.
