NEW PRAGUE/LE SUEUR, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's golf team finished 11th out of 14 teams at the Bobby Krig Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at New Prague Golf Club and Le Sueur Country Club.
St. Olaf had its top-four finishers separated by just four shots, with first year
Ike Vessey leading the way for the second weekend in a row. Vessey finished in a tie for 25th in the field of 84 golfers with a two-day 154 (+13).
As a team, St. Olaf placed 11th with a total of 623 (+59) over the two rounds. The Oles were 10th on Saturday after a 315 (+31) at New Prague before dipping one spot to 11th on Sunday after a 308 (+28) in Le Sueur.
Vessey carded a team-high five birdies on the weekend with three on Saturday and two on Sunday. After opening with a 79 (+8), the first year rose 10 spots to crack the top 25 with a 75 (+5) in round two thanks, in part, to a one-over 36 on the back nine that included both of his birdies on the day.
Sophomore
Isaac Schmidt posted back-to-back seven-over scores of 78 and 77 to tie for 27th overall with a 155 (+14). The sophomore finished the weekend in a tie for seventh in the field with 22 pars while ending up one shot ahead of senior
Tyler Leibl.
Leibl tied for 31st after consecutive rounds of 78 to shoot 156 (+15) for the weekend. The senior tallied 21 pars on the weekend to rank in a tie for 11th in the field. Junior
Josh Sansom was two shots off Leibl's pace and tied for 40th (158, +17).
St. Olaf will be back in action at the SJU Spring Invite on Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28. Saturday's opening round will be at Wapicada Golf Club in Sauk Rapids and Sunday's round will be at Monticello Country Club.
