SAUK RAPIDS/MONTICELLO, Minn. – Led by a top-15 finish from senior Tyler Leibl, the St. Olaf College men's golf team finished eighth out of 14 teams at the Saint John's University Spring Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Wapicada Golf Club and Monticello Country Club.

Leibl posted his second top-15 performance of the season – his first of the spring – by tying for 14th overall with a 36-hole total of 149 (+6) to lead the way for St. Olaf. The Oles finished with a two-day team score of 610 (+38) after posting totals of 301 (+13) and 309 (+25).

After an opening-round 75 (+3) on Saturday, Leibl moved up seven spots to crack the top 15 with a 74 (+3) in rainy conditions on Sunday to post a total of 149 (+6). The senior had three birdies in each of the two rounds while finishing as the highest Ole on the leaderboard for the third time this season.

Highlighted by a three-under 32 on the front nine, Vessey carded a 73 (+1) on Saturday to sit in a tie for 12th before winding up in a tie for 21st (151, +8) following a 78 (+7) on Sunday. The first year, who was the top finisher for St. Olaf in each of the last two tournaments, closed out the weekend in a tie for fifth in the field in par-three scoring at even par.

Like Leibl, junior Josh Sansom rose seven spots up the leaderboard on Sunday with a second-round 76 (+5) to conclude the weekend with a 153 (+10). Sansom had three of his four birdies on the weekend on Sunday in Monticello. Sophomore Isaac Schmidt shot a first-round 76 (+4) before finishing with an 81 (+10) to tie for 45th (157, +14).

St. Olaf will play its annual Rusty Putter Match against Carleton College on Saturday, May 4 at Northfield Golf Club in its final event of the season.
