Women's track and field second at Norse Invite

DECORAH, Iowa – The St. Olaf College women's track and field team finished second of nine teams at the Norse Invitational in its first full-team meet of the outdoor season on Saturday at Luther College's Carlson Stadium.

Sophomore Isabel Wyatt, junior Alison Bode, and senior Riki Poore posted wins on the track for St. Olaf, which compiled 141 points in the meet to trail only Gustavus Adolphus College's first-place total of 216.50 points.

Wyatt was the top finisher in the 800-meter run with a winning time of 2:19.91 that was over three seconds faster than the second-place finisher. The sophomore's time was less than half a second shy of her PR and ranks third in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) this season. St. Olaf had five of the top-seven finishers in the event.

Bode won the 1,500-meter run in 4:49.14 to lead six Oles in the top seven in the event. Senior Bella Call (4:51.37), junior Sophie Abernethy (4:51.60), and sophomore Lauren Walda (4:54.28) all joined Bode in the top five.

Poore established a personal-best time in the 400-meter hurdles while winning the event in 1:06.81, which is the third-fastest time in the conference this season in the event.

St. Olaf also had a pair of runner-up finishes in the meet, as sophomore Grace Moeller was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:37.79) and first year Mara Larson was second in the high jump (1.60m, 5' 3"). Moeller's time was the fastest among NCAA Division III runners and was faster than the previous meet record, while Larson's clearance is the highest in the MIAC and ranks in the top 30 nationally.

Senior Karla Kroschel recorded two of St. Olaf's four third-place performances on the day by taking third in both the 100-meter dash (12.79) and 200-meter dash, with both times being the fastest of her collegiate career. Fellow senior Peyton Irsfeld broke onto St. Olaf's all-time top-10 list in the hammer throw with a personal-best toss of 39.71 meters (130' 3"), which ranks seventh in program history.

The Oles will compete at the UW-Platteville Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 12-13. The 5,000-meter run and hammer throw will be held on Friday evening before the rest of the meet will get going on Saturday.
