Six from softball pick up MIAC postseason accolades

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Six members of the St. Olaf College softball team combined to receive seven postseason accolades as part of the 2024 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Softball Awards, as announced on Monday afternoon.

Junior Medora Rylee, junior Amelia Christenson, senior Anne Fossum, senior Hannah Peschel, and senior Jaelyn Orth all landed spots on the All-Conference Team in a vote by the league's head coaches, while senior Shreya Ashok earned a spot on the honorable-mention list. Monday's announcement marked the fourth season in a row that five Oles earned All-MIAC honors, which is the highest total in program history. Christenson also represented St. Olaf on the MIAC All-Playoff Team.

Rylee collected All-MIAC honors for the second season in a row after starting all 22 of St. Olaf's conference games. In the 22 games, the junior hit .333 with one double, one home run, eight walks, nine RBI, and 13 runs scored while ranking in the MIAC's top 25 in walks (t-10th, 8), runs scored (t-22nd, 13), and hits (t-25th, 24) in conference play.

Christenson also recorded her second consecutive All-MIAC accolade after ranking among the top hitters in the MIAC in nine categories this season. In conference play, the junior was tied for seventh in total bases (41), tied for ninth in batting average (.400), hits (28), and RBI (17), 10th in OPS (1.020), 11th in slugging percentage (.586), tied for 14th in home runs (2), 18th in on-base percentage (.434), and tied for 20th in doubles (5). Christenson also was named to the 13-member All-Playoff Team after going 2-for-3 with a solo home run against Gustavus Adolphus College on May 9.

Fossum was one of the top run-producers in the MIAC this season, leading to her second All-MIAC accolade in a row to close out her career. In 22 MIAC contests, the senior ranked tied for fourth in the conference in home runs (4), tied for seventh in RBI (19), ninth in walks (9), 10th in slugging percentage (.587), tied for 12th in doubles (6) and total bases (37), 16th in OPS (.976), and tied for 17th in runs scored (14).

Peschel joined Fossum as one of the top run-producers in the conference while also serving as one of the top defensive outfielders in her senior season, earning postseason recognition for the third season in a row. She started all 22 games in center field for the Oles and ranked in the top 20 in the conference in doubles (t-4th, 7), RBI (6th, 20), home runs (t-8th, 3), runs scored (t-10th, 16), slugging percentage (12th, .563), total bases (t-16th, 36), and walks (t-19th, 6). Peschel also earned All-MIAC honors in 2022 and was an Honorable Mention All-MIAC selection in 2023.

Orth, who added an All-MIAC accolade to one from 2022, was St. Olaf's top statistical pitcher in MIAC play this season, going 8-0 with a 2.14 ERA in 11 appearances. Over 39.1 innings of work, the senior allowed just 31 hits, held opponents to a .217 batting average, and had 32 strikeouts, authoring three complete games and a pair of shutouts.
