Leibl wins two matches, men's golf falls to Carleton in Rusty Putter Match

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – In its final competition of the spring, the St. Olaf College men's golf team was defeated 6.5-3.5 by Carleton College in the Rusty Putter Match on Saturday afternoon at Northfield Golf Club.

Senior Tyler Leibl had a hand in two of St. Olaf's 3.5 points in the match-play format, which was made up of seven singles matches and three four-ball matches. Three pairings from each team played in four-ball matches while also pairing up for two singles matches at the same time, in addition to one regular singles match. This year marked the first year that the Rusty Putter Match was held since 2018-19.

Leibl was the lone victor in singles for the Oles, downing Justin Rodriguez by a 2&1 margin, while also pairing with junior Josh Sansom for a 2&1 victory over Rodriguez and Ryan Choi. St. Olaf's other full point came from the tandem of junior Tyler Cooper and sophomore Isaac Schmidt, who won their four-ball match against Bob Zhu and Gordon Walker by a one-up score.

First year Quinn Neveil added a half-point for St. Olaf by halving his singles match against Geoffrey Jing. Each of the matches contested lasted at least 15 holes and seven of the 10 lasted 17 or 18 holes.
