Fossum lands first MIAC Athlete of the Week accolade

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Senior Anne Fossum of the St. Olaf College softball team earned the first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Athlete of the Week accolade of her career by being named the MIAC Softball Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Fossum put up big numbers at the plate in St. Olaf's 4-0 week that locked up the program's sixth consecutive MIAC Playoff berth. Monday's announcement made the senior the third Ole to be selected as the MIAC Softball Player of the Week this season.

Last week, Fossum posted a slash line of .538/.563/.1.154 with two doubles, two home runs, two walks, six runs scored, and eight RBI in St. Olaf's four wins. The senior had two hits apiece in three of the four wins, including homering in both games of Saturday's sweep of Concordia-Moorhead while driving in a combined six runs in the two games.

Three of Fossum's four home runs this season have come in the last six games, as she has raised her batting average from .264 to .305 over that span. The Northfielder ranks in the MIAC"s top 20 in home runs (t-7th, 4), doubles (t-8th, 10), RBI (t-11th, 26), walks (t-12th, 14), and slugging percentage (17th, .514).

As the No. 4 seed, St. Olaf will host No. 5 seed Gustavus Adolphus College to begin the MIAC Playoffs on Thursday, May 9 at 4:30 p.m. The winner will advance to face top-seeded Saint Mary's University on Saturday, May 11 at 11 a.m. in Winona.
