Volleyball edges closer to cracking top 25 of AVCA poll

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The St. Olaf College volleyball team moved closer to breaking into the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA)/Taraflex Division III Women's Volleyball Poll by receiving 49 points in this week's balloting, as released on Tuesday.

St. Olaf (15-6, 5-0 MIAC) collected votes in the national poll for the fourth consecutive week after extending its winning streak to 11 matches – its longest since 2010 – with Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) victories over Hamline University and then-No. 24-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College last week. The Oles' 49 points in the balloting were the program's highest total this season.

Of St. Olaf's six losses this season, four have come to programs ranked in the top 25 this week – No. 1 University of La Verne, No. 19 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, No. 24 University of Dubuque (twice) – and one more came to a team (University of Northwestern) that received votes. The Oles also have three top-25 victories this season, defeating then-No. 17-ranked Millikin University (Sept. 6) and then-No. 1-ranked UW-Whitewater (Sept. 20), in addition to Friday's win over Gustavus, which snapped the Gusties 44-match MIAC regular-season winning streak.

The Oles will host Macalester College on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. for the team's Cancer Awareness Match and a Blue Out at Skoglund Center.
