HOW THEY GOT HERE
After earning an at-large bid into the field of 64 teams, St. Olaf booked its spot in the third round by shutting out
UW-Superior, 3-0, and
Luther College, 1-0, last weekend at Rolf Mellby Field. In the midst of their 12th NCAA Tournament appearance (1984, 1992, 1998-99, 2009, 2011, 2015, 2021-25), the Oles are 17-8-2 all-time in the national tournament including the two victories this season.
Another at-large qualifier for this year's NCAA Tournament, Williams advanced to the "Sweet 16" with a
4-0 victory over La Roche University and a
2-1 win against the host University of Scranton last weekend. One of the most successful programs in the country, the Ephs are in the NCAA Tournament for the 22nd time (1993-96, 1998-07, 2009-10, 2012-13, 2018, 2022, 2024-25) and hold a 44-17-12 all-time record in the field. Williams won the 1995 national title, finished as the national runner-up twice (1993, 2022), and made the semifinals on four other occasions (1998, 2009, 2012, 2013).
Macalester (17-4-0) claimed an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament by defeating St. Olaf, 4-1, in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoff title game. Last weekend, the Scots posted 2-1 victories over
Illinois Wesleyan University and
UW-Eau Claire in St. Paul to advance. This year marks the 13th NCAA Tournament appearance (1988, 1990, 1996-99, 2001-02, 2005, 2009-10, 2015, 2025) for the Scots, who are 9-9-5 all-time in the field. Macalester is in the "Sweet 16" for the third time and has twice bowed out in the national quarterfinals (1998, 2002).
On its home field, Wheaton (16-1-4) blanked
Neumann University, 3-0, and
Middlebury College, 1-0, last weekend to move on to the sectional rounds after getting into the field with an at-large bid. The Lyons are in the field for the 11th time (1997, 2000-01, 2003-07, 2013-14, 2025) and first time since 2014. Wheaton owns a 12-8-3 all-time record in the NCAA Tournament, with its deepest-ever run coming with a run to the semifinals in 2003. The Lyons also made the quarterfinals in 2001 and the "Sweet 16" in 2004.
