NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's swimming and diving team set a pair of pool records, as the men's and women's teams were defeated by Carleton College in their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) duals on Saturday at Thorpe Pool.

Katie Homme broke the previous pool record by half a second in the 400-yard medley relay, while Small's leadoff split was just over one-tenth of a second faster than the facility's 100-yard backstroke mark. The Oles won 12 events at the meet, although the Knights came away with a 157-137 victory on the women's side and a 201-91 win on the men's side.
Small, Sylvester, Hultgren, and Homme won the 400-yard medley relay in 4:02.40, which surpassed the previous pool record of 4:02.93 set by Carleton in 2021. Small's split of 58.64 was 0.11 seconds faster than the prior record set by Kyle Fraser-Mines of Carleton in 2021.
Small added first-place swims in the 50-yard backstroke (27.51) and 200-yard backstroke (2:11.26), while Homme won the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.33) and 500-yard freestyle (5:23.00). Junior
Paige Steenblock was also a double-event winner for St. Olaf in the 200-yard butterfly (2:17.79) and 400-yard individual medley (4:48.65). Senior
Ellen Varley added a win in the 50-yard butterfly (27.35).

Nick Starcevich both won two individual events to account for the four first-place performances from the St. Olaf men, with all four wins coming in the freestyle events. Starcevich raced to wins in the 50-yard freestyle (22.11) and 100-yard freestyle (48.69), while Elling was first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.68) and 500-yard freestyle (5:00.20).
St. Olaf will head to the University of Minnesota First Chance Meet on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8 at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
