PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Four members of the St. Olaf College men's track and field team ran in a highly-competitive field in the 5,000-meter run at the UW-Platteville Invitational on Friday evening at UW-Platteville Track & Field Complex.
Junior
Kevin Turlington, senior
Andrew Skemp, junior
Ignatius Fitzgerald, and senior
Sean Hartney all raced in the field of 274 runners from NCAA Division I, II, III programs, as well as running clubs. Turlington, Skemp, and Fitzgerald shook up St. Olaf's all-time top-10 list in the event with their performances.
Turlington knocked 10 seconds off his fastest 5K time – which came indoors – and rose all the way to second on St. Olaf's list with a 13th-place time of 14:13.01. That time trails only the school-record time of 14:01.17 by Logan Bocovich '23 in 2023.
Skemp jumped from 10th to seventh on St. Olaf's list after clocking in at 14:25.21 to finish in 22nd place overall and post a PR of over 10 seconds. In his first 5K as an Ole, Fitzgerald broke into the top 10 in 10th in 14:34.73 to finish 47th, while Hartney took 59th in 14:41.01. Like Turlington and Skemp, Hartney's time was a PR of over 10 seconds.
St. Olaf will be in action at the Bethel Invitational and Cardinal Invitational on Saturday, April 12.
