Turlington's 10K highlights WashU Distance Carnival for track and field teams

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Sixteen members of the St. Olaf College men's and women's track and field teams began their outdoor seasons by running at the WashU Distance Carnival on Thursday and Friday at Bushyhead Track.

Eight runners from both programs were in action at the two-day meet, which included programs from all NCAA Divisions and was unscored. Senior Kevin Turlington provided the highlight of the meet with a top-30 all-time performance in NCAA Division III in the 10,000-meter run.

On Friday night, Turlington was third in the field of 97 runners in the men's 10,000-meter run, finishing in 29:17.58 to become the second Ole ever to run a sub-30:00 10K. The senior's time was less than two seconds off the school record of 29:15.93 set by Logan Bocovich '23 in 2023, was more than 40 seconds faster than Turlington's previous personal-best time in the event, and ranks No. 2 in NCAA Division III history this season.

Seniors Gael Manzur Strandlund and Jonathan Pattie also ran in the 10,000-meter run, with Manzur Strandlund placing 43rd (31:03.99) and Pattie 68th (31:42.81), with Pattie's time being a personal-best by nearly 90 seconds.

Sophomore Jackson Bullock added a personal-best time of 4:01.49 in the 1,500-meter run to finish 39th, while senior Jack Deaver was 37th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:43.53).

First year Cora DenHartog logged a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run (2:12.48) to lead the way for the St. Olaf women. Senior Isabel Wyatt was 16th (2:15.30) in the event as the duo posted the No. 6 and No. 16 times in NCAA Division III this season.

Sophomore Abi Lindquist, senior Megan Timmerman, senior Molly Kate McCloskey, junior Kathleen Madden, and sophomore Arabella England all recorded personal-best times in the 5,000-meter run, highlighted by Lindquist winning her heat and placing 70th overall in 17:57.20. Senior Grace Moeller added a 47th-place result in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:00.58).

St. Olaf will send runners to compete in the 5,000-meter run at the UW-Platteville Invitational on Friday, April 10 before the rest of the team is in action at home at the Manitou Classic on Saturday, April 11.
