LA CROSSE, Wis. – Senior
Kevin Turlington of the St. Olaf College men's track and field team capped his decorated career with a 13th-place finish and Second Team All-America honors in the 5,000-meter run on the final day of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Roger Harring Stadium.
Less than 48 hours after placing third in the 10,000-meter run with a top-20 time in NCAA Division III history, Turlington clocked in in 14:35.80 to take 13th and earn the sixth All-America accolade of his career. The Rochester Lourdes product was one of nine runners in the field of 22 to compete in both the 5,000-meter run and 10,000-meter run and was the first Ole in recorded program history to do so.
Turlington's third-place finish in the 10,000-meter run and junior
Max Albertson's fourth-place performance in the long jump gave St. Olaf 11 points in the team standings, which put the Oles in a tie for 21st at the conclusion of the three-day meet. The 11 points and t-21st finish were the best for the program since 2015-16.
After sitting in 19th through three-and-a-half laps, Turlington moved up to 13th over the next five laps. He was as high as 12th with one lap remaining before winding up in 13th for his second consecutive All-America accolade in the event. Turlington was 11th in the same event last year in his lone event of the national meet.
In addition to his six All-America honors, four of which were in track and field, Turlington was an 11-time All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) honoree in cross country (three times) and track and field (eight times) during his career. He concluded his career as the program's all-time record holder in the indoor 5,000-meter run and outdoor 10,000-meter run, while ranking second in the outdoor 5,000-meter run and third on the eight-kilometer cross country list.
