Albertson and Turlington star on day one of NCAA Outdoor Championships

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Junior Max Albertson and senior Kevin Turlington both posted top-four finishes, set program records, and earned All-America honors and put the St. Olaf College men's track and field in second place after the first day of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday at Roger Harring Stadium.

Turlington set a new Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) record in the 10,000-meter run with his third-place finish (29:14.15), while Albertson broke the 24-year-old program record in the long jump with his fourth-place performance (7.52m, 24' 8 ¼"). The 11 points the duo collected put St. Olaf in second place, 13 points behind UW-Oshkosh through three scored events.

Albertson started the day by joining Cory Dingels '02 as the only Oles to claim All-America honors in the outdoor long jump and matched Dingels' fourth-place finish while breaking his program record of 7.32 meters (24' ¼"). After opening with a jump of 7.09 meters (23' 3 ¼"), Albertson easily surpassed his previous top jump of 7.29 meters with a leap of 7.52 meters to vault into second place behind UW-Oshkosh's Joshua Rivers, who went on to win his sixth national title in the event. Albertson was third heading into the final round of jumps before finishing fourth to tie Dingels for the highest finish in program history.

To close out the night, Turlington broke the St. Olaf and MIAC all-time 10K record of 29:15.93 set by former teammate Logan Bocovich '23 in 2023 while recording the highest-ever finish for an Ole in the event in third. The performance was good for the fifth All-America accolade of Turlington's career, with three coming in track and field and two in cross country. Turlington was in the top-eight spots for the final two-thirds of the race and jumped up from fifth to third with a quarter of the race to go.

Turlington will close out the Oles' showings at the national meet in the 5,000-meter run at 4:25 p.m. on Saturday, May 23.
