Women's 4x400 and Albertson shine at UWL Final Qualifier

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The women's 4x400-meter relay broke the school record and posted a top-10 national time as members of the St. Olaf College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the UW-La Crosse Final Qualifier on Thursday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Sophomore Izzi Jaeckle, first year Claire Stein, first year Eleanor Semple, and first year Cora DenHartog shattered a 16-year-old program record in the 4x400-meter relay (3:44.74) and earned a spot at next week's NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships by running the No. 8 time in the country this season. The quartet's time was over seconds faster than the previous school record set in 2010.

Junior Max Albertson also assured himself of a spot at the national meet with a one-centimeter improvement in the long jump (7.29m, 23' 11"). That jump moved Albertson into a tie for 18th nationally. His previous top jump of the season (7.28m) would have left him hoping for scratches from other qualifiers to make the field.

Senior Cullen Moore, senior Lance Nemecek, first year Paxon Myers, and junior Christian Fells finished second (1:51.60), third (1:51.80), sixth (1:52.66), and 14th (1:54.28), respectively, in the 800-meter run. Sophomore Garrett Seppanen ran a personal-best time in the 1,500-meter run (3:51.20) to finish eighth, while senior Jack Deaver clocked in with a season-best time of 9:25.07 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to place fifth.

Five other members of the women's team were also in action: junior Otelia Lighthill in the discus throw (11th, 41.54m, 136' 3"), senior Isabel Wyatt in the 800-meter run (12th, 2:15.68), first year Svea Frantzich in the triple jump (12th, 11.11m, 36' 5 ½"), first year Annika Walsh in the high jump (16th, 1.54m, 5' 0 ½"), and first year Abby Frei in the pole vault (19th, 3.41m, 11' 2 ¼").

The official qualifying lists for next week's national meet in La Crosse, Wis. will be announced on Friday, May 15 via press release on NCAA.com.
