Madden Vanderwerf was selected as the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Tennis Rookie of the Year and was one of four members of the St. Olaf College men's tennis team to be honored in the 2024-25 MIAC Men's Tennis Awards, as announced on Tuesday.
Vanderwerf was voted the MIAC Rookie of the Year by the conference's head coaches, becoming the second Ole to earn the accolade in the three-year existence of the award. Vanderwerf, sophomore

Lou Smith were the four Oles to land All-MIAC honors in singles and/or doubles.
Vanderwerf joined Vizoli (2022-23) in being named the MIAC Rookie of the Year, while also landing All-MIAC honors in singles and representing St. Olaf on the MIAC All-Playoff Team. In his rookie season, the Mankato East product went 7-2 in MIAC play in singles between the No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 singles spots as part of a 16-3 season overall. Vanderwerf's 16 overall wins were tied for the most in a single season in recorded program history. The first year won both of his matches in the Oles' quarterfinal playoff win over Concordia-Moorhead and did not finish either of his matches in the semifinals against Gustavus Adolphus College.
Vizoli collected All-MIAC honors in both singles and doubles for the third season in a row after another strong season at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. The junior finished 5-4 in the conference in singles and was 4-5 in doubles atop the lineup with Smith. Smith was honored in doubles alongside Vizoli, while also earning Honorable Mention All-MIAC honors in singles after going 5-4 at the No. 3 spot.
Veldic landed a second All-MIAC accolade in a row in singles with a 4-5 mark at No. 2 singles in his sophomore season.
In its second season under head coach
Joey Kronzer '16, St. Olaf posted its first winning record in MIAC play since 2014-15 and advanced to the semifinals of the MIAC Playoffs with a roster that included one senior, one junior, three sophomores, and five first years.
