Men's golf puts three in top 10, takes second at Augsburg Fall Invite

HAM LAKE, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's golf team had three individuals in the top 10 as part of a runner-up finish at the season-opening Augsburg Fall Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Majestic Oaks Golf Club.

In a 14-team field that included five other Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) programs, St. Olaf took second to the University of Manitoba with a 36-hole team score of 597 (+21). The Oles, who led the field with 26 birdies and were second in par-three scoring (+8) and par-four scoring (+14) for the weekend, shot a 301 (+13) on Saturday before improving by five strokes with a 296 (+8) on Sunday.

Junior Will Black recorded the second top-five finish of his career with a two-day 146 (+2) that included a one-under 71 on Sunday that tied the low round of his career. Black had six of his tournament-high eight birdies in the second round to move up six spots and crack the top five. The junior also led the field in par-four scoring (-3) for the weekend.

In their first collegiate tournament, first years Evan Hovde and Silas Dusenbury were part of a six-way tie for eighth (150, +6) to give the Oles three top-10 finishers. Hoved had five of his seven birdies on the weekend in a 74 (+2) on Saturday, while Dusenbury jumped up 10 spots on Sunday with a 74 (+2). Dusenbury was tied for fourth in the field in par-five scoring (-1) overall.

Competing as an individual, junior Jacob Quade matched the low round of his career with a first-round 75 (+3) and finished the weekend in a tie for 14th (151, +7). Quade was in the top 10 in par-five scoring (-1) and par-four scoring (+2) for the tournament. Senior Jacob Brown climbed 15 spots up the leaderboard with a 75 (+3) on Sunday to tie for 20th (154, +10).

St. Olaf will be back in action at the Wrigglesworth Blugold Invitational on Sunday and Monday, Sept. 13-14 in Eau Claire, Wis.
