AUSTIN, Texas – Rising senior
Sean Lonergan of the St. Olaf College men's track & field team was named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-America Division III Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), on Tuesday.
St. Olaf's first-ever Academic All-America selection in men's track & field/cross country, Lonergan was selected to the third team, becoming the 11th Google Cloud Academic All-America honoree in school history.
An economics and political science double major, Lonergan owns a 3.78 cumulative GPA and is a three-time Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Academic All-Conference selection.
On the track, Lonergan earned a pair of All-American accolades this spring for the Oles, finishing fifth in the 1,500 meters at the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Geneva, Ohio and sixth in the mile at the 2019 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships in Boston, Mass.
Lonergan was the MIAC champion in the 1,500 meters at the 2019 MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships and also placed fifth in the 800 meters. He also finished second in the 1,000 meters and fourth in the mile at the 2019 MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Over his career, Lonergan is a three-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honoree and was a USTFCCCA All-Academic pick in outdoor track & field last spring.
