CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Rising junior
Cassidy Schnell as well as rising sophomores
Sydney Monge and
Bergen Senf of the St. Olaf College women's golf team were named 2020-21 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars on Tuesday.
The three Oles were among a total of 1,432 women's collegiate golfers from across the country recognized with the honor, which is awarded to student-athletes with a minimum cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.50. All three St. Olaf student-athletes earned the accolade for the first time in their respective careers.
The academic honor was the second of the season for Schnell, who was also named to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Academic All-Conference team last month. Senf and Monge were two of five first-year golfers in the conference to earn All-MIAC or Honorable Mention All-MIAC honors this spring after they both finished in the top 20 at the conference meet.
In normal seasons, NCAA Division III student-athletes must play a minimum of 12 rounds during competition during the academic year to qualify for the accolade. However, that criteria was altered this year to playing in 50 percent of the team's rounds due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
