EDINA, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's golf team improved by six strokes but remained in seventh place on day two of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Women's Golf Championships in rainy conditions on Sunday at Braemar Golf Course.
St. Olaf shot six strokes better than Saturday's opening round with a team score of 332 (+44) but sat 21 strokes behind sixth-place Bethel University in the seventh spot on the team leaderboard. The Oles opened up a 24-shot cushion on Concordia-Moorhead for seventh after shooting 18 strokes better than the Cobbers on day two.
Junior
Ella Wright posted St. Olaf's low score of round two with an 80 (+8) that included back-to-back birdies on holes 5-6 as part of a five-shot improvement from Saturday. Wright's consecutive birdies were the lone birdies of the round for the Oles, as the junior moved up three spots to a tie for 23rd through 36 holes (165, +21).
Sophomore
Anneliese Carlson and junior
Marit Lyle both carded rounds of 83 (+11), with Lyle improving six shots from the first round and Carlson three. Carlson rose one spot to a tie for 29
th (169, +25), with Lyle three shots behind in 34th (172, +28).
First year
Annika Searles shot an 86 (+14) and had St. Olaf's second-best standing through two rounds in a tie for 26th (168, +24).
Tee times for Monday's final round will begin at 9 a.m. Senior
Belle Mae Williams will be part of the first group off the tees, followed in 10-minute increments by Lyle and Carlson. Searles (9:40 a.m.) and Wright (9:50 a.m.) will follow.
