MARQUETTE, Mich. – The St. Olaf College women's Nordic skiing team placed second and the men were third among Midwest Collegiate Ski Association (MSCA) programs at the Half-Noquemanon as part of the 2023 Noquemanon Ski Marathon on Saturday.
First year
Tait Myers was the top overall individual finisher in the 24K Skate, while sophomore
Lily Hubanks led all MCSA women's competitors in the 24K Classic for St. Olaf. The Ole women were second of eight teams in the Half-Noque with 117 points – trailing only the University of Minnesota (146) – while the men were third with 111 points.
Myers paced the field of 273 finishers in the 24K Freestyle with a time of 1:03:38.7, finishing just over two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Senior
Tor Hanson joined Myers in the top 10 with an eighth-place performance (1:08:08.7). Senior
Noah Johnson represented the Oles in the 24K Classic and was sixth overall – fourth among MCSA competitors – with a time of 1:20:22.1.
Hubanks was the top female finisher in the 24K Classic, crossing the line in 1:24:40.4 to place 13th overall and lead all MCSA women's competitors. Senior
Kenna Nguyen was ninth among MCSA women's finishers in 57th place (1:48:53.4). Senior
Lucia Wyland and sophomore
Mira Tomten competed in the 24K Freestyle, placing sixth and seventh, respectively, among MCSA skiers with times of 1:17:38.2 and 1:18:38.7. Those times were both in the top-40 overall in the event.
St. Olaf competes at the Ashwabay Ski Race in Bayfield, Wis. on Saturday, Feb. 4.
