MAPLE GROVE, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's golf team fell three spots to finish eighth on the final day of the 2023 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Golf Championships on Monday at Rush Creek Golf Club.
St. Olaf entered the day in fifth place in the nine-team standings but was overtaken by Augsburg University, Macalester College, and Carleton College after recording a team score of 311 (+23) in Monday's final round. The Oles' three-day total of 919 (+55) was just four shots behind the Scots and Knights and five behind the Auggies.
First year
Ike Vessey put together St. Olaf's lowest round of the day on Monday with a three-over 75 that included birdies on holes 1 and 18 to bookend his round. The round moved Vessey up seven spots to a tie for 19th with sophomore
Isaac Schmidt with three-day totals of 229 (+13) after Schmidt shot a 78 (+6) on Monday. Schmidt had birdies on holes 8 and 10 in the middle of his final round.
Junior Sansom was the Oles' third-highest finisher for the tournament by placing 23rd with a 230 (+14) after a final-round 82 (+10). Senior
Tyler Leibl matched Schmidt's score of 78 (+6) on Monday and was in the top 30 in 28th (233, +17), while senior
Leonardo Acerbi moved up two spots to 39th (243, +27) with an 80 (+8) on Monday.
The tournament marked the end of the fall season for St. Olaf. The team's spring schedule will be posted once it is formulated.
