St. Olaf is making its fifth appearance in the MIAC Playoffs, previously appearing in 2002, 2012, 2014, and 2022 (all teams qualified last year). The Oles are in search of their second-ever victory in the tournament after earning their first win in the opening round last season and are 1-4 all-time in the MIAC Playoffs. St. Olaf was also the No. 6 seed in its first appearance in 2002, falling at No. 3 Carleton College in the quarterfinals.
Hamline is in the MIAC Playoffs for the seventh time in program history and the third year in a row (not counting 2021 when the tournament was not held). Like the Oles, the Pipers claimed their first-ever victory in the tournament last season with a 78-61 quarterfinal win over Saint Ben's before falling, 75-72, to top-seeded Augsburg University in the semifinals.
Tuesday night's matchup will be the first meeting between St. Olaf and Hamline in the MIAC Playoffs, as the Oles will face their fifth different opponent over their five playoff appearances. The two teams split their two head-to-head meetings during the regular season, with both teams winning on their home floor. Hamline maintained its unbeaten start to the season with a
58-46 win in St. Paul on Dec. 3 before St. Olaf outscored the visitors by a 25-16 margin in the fourth quarter to rally for a
60-56 victory on Jan. 21 in Northfield.
