Kelly pockets D3hoops.com First Team All-Region honors

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Senior Rachel Kelly of the St. Olaf College women's basketball team became the program's second-ever D3hoops.com All-Region honoree when she was named to the Region 9 First Team on Tuesday.

Kelly was one of five student-athletes selected to the first team and 16 honorees in Region 9 to join Elyse Erickson, who was a second-team honoree in 2009, as the lone student-athletes in program history to be named to the D3hoops.com All-Region teams. This season marked the 22nd season that D3hoops.com has named All-Region teams, which are voted on by Sports Information Directors (SIDs) and conference offices in the region.

Along with the rest of the D3hoops.com All-Region selections, Kelly is eligible for All-America selection. The 26th annual D3hoops.com All-America teams will be announced on a weekday between the March 18 semifinals and the April 1 title game in Dallas.

The accolade was the latest in a string of postseason honors for Kelly, who was named the inaugural Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Offensive Player of the Year, collected her third All-MIAC accolade, and was selected to the MIAC All-Playoff Team earlier this month. The Northfield native is just the third three-time All-MIAC honoree in program history and is the first Ole to be named a MIAC Player of the Year in women's basketball.

Kelly started all 26 games for St. Olaf this season, averaging 16.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.7 blocks in 30.9 minutes per game while shooting 57.7 percent from the field, a figure that currently ranks 15th nationally. The senior ranked in the top 10 in the region in double-doubles (t-4th, 9), field-goal percentage (4th, .577), blocks per game (5th, 1.73), blocks (6th, 45), rebounds per game (6th, 8.8), field goals made (8th, 173), points (8th, 437), points per game (8th, 16.8), and rebounds (10th, 228).

In St. Olaf's single-season record book, Kelly's senior-season totals rank first in field-goal percentage, second in points and field goals made, third in points per game, fourth in blocked shots and blocked shots per game, eighth in free-throw percentage (.760), 10th in rebounds per game. She concluded her career third in program history in scoring (1,089), second in points per game (14.7), second in field goals made (438), third in field-goal percentage (.524), second in blocked shots (88), second in blocked shots per game (1.2), fifth in free-throw percentage (.735), sixth in rebounds per game (7.6), sixth in rebounds (564), and ninth in three-point field-goal percentage (.345).

Kelly's play helped St. Olaf record its highest single-season win total (14) and highest MIAC win total (11) since 2013-14, as the Oles qualified for the MIAC Playoffs under the six-team format for the first time since 2014.
