MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif. – Sophomore
Lily Hubanks and the St. Olaf College women's Nordic skiing team won their second U.S. Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) national championship in as many days in the skate sprint on Wednesday at the Tamarack Cross Country Ski Center.
Battling heavy snowfall from a potentially-record-setting system, Hubanks had the top times in the qualifier, quarterfinals, semifinals, and the A Final to claim her third USCSA individual national title in the 1.5-kilometer races. Senior

Mira Tomten joined Hubanks in earning All-America honors with top-15 finishes, as four Oles were in the top 15 to lead St. Olaf to the title by three points over the University of Wyoming.
The St. Olaf men were fifth for the second day in a row, edging Cornell University by three points for the top-five team finish. First years

Felix Taracena both placed in the top 20 for the Oles.
To start the day, Hubanks posted the top time (3:21.6) in the qualifier, as all four St. Olaf women advanced to the quarterfinal heats. Wyland was eighth (3:36.4), Everest was 12th (3:39.7), and Tomten was 14th (3:40.5), as all four comfortably advanced by placing in the top 30.
In the quarterfinals, Hubanks, Wyland, and Tomten all placed in the top two of their heats to earn spots in the semifinals. Hubanks won the first heat in 3:50.7, with Everest in third (4:12.6), while Wyland (4:09.1) and Tomten (4:09.3) were both second in their six-person heats.
Hubanks won the first semifinal in 3:51.4 to book her spot in the A Final, while Wyland and Tomten both secured spots in the B Final. In the final round of the day, Hubanks finished just over two seconds ahead of Ayla Bodach-Turner of the University of Maine at Farmington to claim the top spot in 3:45.8. Wyland ultimately finished sixth overall by winning the B Final in 4:08.7, while Tomten picked up her first All-America accolade in 10th with a fifth-place finish in the B Final (4:16.0). Everest wound up in 13th in the overall standings to add another All-America accolade to her resume.
For the St. Olaf men, Taracena and Myers started the day by advancing to the quarterfinals in the qualifier, as Taracena was 14th (2:58.4) and Myers was 22nd (3:02.4). Both first years went on to place fourth in their quarterfinal heats, with Myers placing 18th overall and Taracena 20th.
With the schedule changing constantly due to the weather, the final event of the USCSA National Championships is scheduled to be the 15K Skate, which is set to be held on Thursday, March 9.
