ALBANY/MONTICELLO, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's golf team concluded its season with an 11th-place finish at the SJU Spring Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Albany Golf Club and Monticello Country Club.
Competing in colder-than-normal and windy conditions, St. Olaf was 11th in the 18-team field with a two-day team total of 622 (+5). The Oles shot a 302 (+14) – tied for their third-best round of the season – to sit in a tie for sixth on Saturday before posting a score of 320 (+36) on Sunday.
Junior
Tyler Leibl matched the best finish of his career by tying for ninth with a two-day score of 149 (+6) that included a career-low round of 73 (+1) in the opening round. The junior had 15 pars, two bogeys, and one birdie on Saturday before moving up three spots to crack the top 10 on Sunday.
Playing as an individual, junior
Leonardo Acerbi recorded the highest finish of his St. Olaf career by tying for 17th (152, +9). Acerbi fired a career-low 75 (+3) on Saturday in Albany and, like Leibl, rose three spots up the leaderboard on Sunday to cement the top-20 finish. Acerbi and Leibl both carded 26 pars over the two rounds to tie for the highest total in the field.
Coming off a tournament win last weekend, sophomore
Josh Sansom tied for 33rd (156, +13) and was joined in the top 40 by first year
Teddy Trost, who tied for 39th (157, +14). Trost's first-round 75 (+3) was the lowest round of his young career and included three birdies.
