BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Senior
Kevin Turlington and sophomore
Ryan Herbst of the St. Olaf College men's track and field and men's golf programs earned Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Athlete of the Week accolades in their respective sports on Tuesday.
Turlington landed the third MIAC Athlete of the Week accolade of his career by being chosen as the MIAC Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, while Herbst picked up his first MIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week award.
Turlington was previously selected as the MIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week on Oct. 21, 2025 and the MIAC Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week on April 1, 2025. Herbst's selection made him just the second Ole honored in men's golf in the last three seasons.
Turlington was less than one second off St. Olaf's program record in the 5,000-meter run while finishing third in a field of 343 runners in 14:01.93 at the UW-Platteville Invitational on Friday night. The senior's time was a near 10-second PR, ranks fifth in NCAA Division III this season, and was a top-50 performance in NCAA Division III history.
Herbst recorded top-six individual finishes in both of the tournaments he competed in for St. Olaf last week. In a tournament made up of all NCAA Division II programs except for St. Olaf, the sophomore tied for sixth at the Dominican Spring Invitational with a two-over 218 over 54 holes before shooting a four-under 140 while playing as an individual in a dual against Gustavus Adolphus College this past weekend. Herbst posted a career-low 66 (-6) in the final round on Sunday.
