NEW PRAGUE/LE SUEUR, Minn. – Senior Isaac Schmidt and sophomore Ryan Herbst were both in the top five individually as the St. Olaf College men's golf team tied for fourth at the 54-hole Bobby Krig Invite on Saturday and Sunday at Wapicada Golf Club and Monticello Country Club.

Schmidt tied for third and Herbst tied for fifth in the field of 97 golfers to help St. Olaf finish in a tie for fourth with No. 33-ranked Carleton College (890, +38). Two of the three teams the Oles trailed were also ranked in the top 40 nationally.

The tournament was made up of 18 holes on Saturday in New Prague and 36 holes on Sunday in Le Sueur, with windy conditions on both days. St. Olaf shot 300 (+16) as a team on Saturday before carding rounds of 291 (+7) and 299 (+15) on Sunday.

In his final collegiate stroke-play tournament, Schmidt tied for third with a three-round 217 (+4) that included 12 birdies, which were tied for the most in the field. The senior tied for second for the weekend in par-five scoring (-7) after posting rounds of 75 (+4), 69 (-2), and 73 (+2).

Herbst matched Schmidt with his fourth top-five finish of the season by tying for fifth (218, +5) overall after ranking second in the field in par-three scoring (+2) and tied for second in par-five scoring (-7). Like Schmidt, Herbst's best round of the weekend was the first round on Sunday, as he shot a two-under 69 between rounds of 74 (+3) and 75 (+4).

Competing as an individual, junior Ike Vessey tied for 33rd with rounds of 77 (+6), 80 (+9), and 73 (+2) for a three-round 230 (+17). Sophomore Will Black and junior Jacob Brown were both tied for 36th (231, +18).

St. Olaf will return to the course for the SJU Spring Invite on Saturday and Sunday, April 25-26. Both days will be 10 a.m. starts at Wapicada Golf Club and Monticello Country Club.
