Hubanks lands CSC Academic All-America ® accolade

AUSTIN, Texas – Rising junior Lily Hubanks of the St. Olaf College women's Nordic skiing team was honored as a Third Team Academic All-American as College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced the 2022-23 Academic All-America ® Women's At-Large teams on Thursday.

Hubanks earned Academic All-America ® honors for the first time in her standout career and became St. Olaf's first Academic All-American since the 2020-21 academic year. The rising junior is St. Olaf's 17th Academic All-American and its second in the sport of women's Nordic skiing, joining Rose Doda '19, who was a third-team honoree in 2019.

Hubanks was one of 45 NCAA Division III student-athletes honored on the three Academic All-America ® teams and was one of just four sophomores among the honorees. The at-large category includes the sports of women's beach volleyball, women's bowling, women's crew/rowing, men's and women's fencing, women's field hockey, men's and women's golf, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's rifle, men's and women's skiing, men's volleyball, men's and women's water polo, and men's wrestling.

The CSC Academic All-America ® program honors the top collegiate student-athletes from across the country for their academic and athletic accomplishments. The Academic All-America ® teams were selected from the pool of Academic All-District ® honorees in a vote by CSC members. In order to be nominated for Academic All-District ® honors, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average and must have participated in at least 50 percent of their team's competitions. Additionally, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing and have been at their institution for at least one full academic year.

This winter, Hubanks won United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) individual national titles in all three events at the USCSA National Championships, sweeping the titles in the 7.5K classic, skate sprint, and 15K classic. The three national titles brought Hubanks' career total to four after she also won the 15K classic in 2021-22. The rising junior, who is majoring in environmental studies, has been an All-American in all six of the events she has competed in at the USCSA National Championships during her career and was named a USCSA First Team Scholar All-American in each of the last two seasons.

Hubanks' performances at the USCSA National Championships this winter helped St. Olaf to team titles in the 7.5K classic and skate sprint and a second-place finish in the 15K skate, as the Oles finished atop the team combined standings. The St. Olaf women also won the President's Award, which combines an institution's performances in Nordic and alpine skiing.
