MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Junior linebacker
Tate Sauerwein of the St. Olaf College football team was selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week, as announced on Tuesday morning.
Sauerwein landed one of the four spots at linebacker on the national weekly honor roll following his performance in St. Olaf's 38-13 win over Macalester on Saturday to become the 18th D3football.com Team of the Week selection in program history. Eleven of the 18 honorees have come since the start of the 2018 season.
On Saturday, Sauerwein had a game- and career-high 10 tackles (all solo), including 2.0 tackles for a loss, to go with one pass breakup and one quarterback hurry in the win over Macalester. The junior's pass breakup came on a fourth-and-two play with Macalester at the St. Olaf 33-yard line in a 22-13 game late in the third quarter and, two plays later, the Oles scored a touchdown to break the game open. Sauerwein's play helped St. Olaf limit the Scots, who entered the game having scored 100 points in two games, to just one touchdown after the opening drive.
The Oles visit St. Paul to face Hamline University on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. at Klas Field.
