Kevin Turlington and senior
Andrew Skemp were both in the top six individually to lead the No. 14-ranked St. Olaf College men's cross country to the team title at the Running of the Cows hosted by Carleton College on Saturday at Bill Huyck Championship Course.
Turlington placed fourth and Skemp was sixth in the field of 315 finishers to propel St. Olaf to the first-place finish out of 21 teams. The Oles compiled 72 points in the team standings to finish 29 points clear of the second-place Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Turlington posted his third top-four finish in as many races this season by leading the Oles with a fourth-place performance in 24:58.2 Skemp compiled his second top-six result in as many races by crossing the line in sixth in 25:10.1 to make St. Olaf the lone team with two runners in the top 10.
Senior
Sean Hartney made it three Oles in the top 15 with a 13th-place performance (25:32.8), while juniors
Parker Max and Ignatius Fitzerald rounded out the Oles' five scores with top-25 finishes. Max was 24th (25:47.4) and Fitzgerald was 25th (25:49.2), with both times representing career-best eight-kilometer times.
St. Olaf, which had eight of the top-40 individual finishers in the race, will be off next weekend before splitting its team between the Jim Drews Invitational and Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 19.
