Oles continue top-20 streaks in USTFCCCA national polls

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The St. Olaf College men's cross country team was ranked No. 14 and the women's cross country team came in at No. 18 in this week's NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Cross Country National Coaches' Polls, as released on Wednesday afternoon by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The men's program remained at No. 14 in the poll for the third week in a row, while the women's program dropped two spots to No. 18 this week. The St. Olaf men remained the lone Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) program to be ranked in the national poll, while the women were one of two nationally-ranked teams from the conference along with No. 11-ranked Carleton College.

Head coach Brian Power's men's program held down its top-15 national ranking after winning the team title at the Running of the Cows at Carleton on Saturday. The Oles had all five of their scorers in the top 25, led by a fourth-place finish from junior Kevin Turlington and a sixth-place finish from senior Andrew Skemp. St. Olaf has been ranked in each of the last 52 USTFCCCA national polls since early in the 2018 season and has been in the top 15 in each of the last 18.

Head coach Erica Maker's women's program also extended its lengthy streak of national rankings by being ranked for the 34th poll in a row and sat inside the top 20 for the 23rd time in the last 25 polls. On Saturday, the Oles finished fourth – second among NCAA Division III programs – at Carleton's Running of the Cows with all five of its scorers in the top 30. Junior Lauren Walda led the way with her second fifth-place performance in as many six-kilometer races this season.

Both teams are off this coming weekend before returning to action with split-squad races at the Jim Drews Invitational and Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 19.
