TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The No. 10-ranked St. Olaf College men's cross country team logged its highest national finish since 2015 with an eighth-place performance at the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championship on Saturday at LaVern Gibson Championship Course.
St. Olaf placed eighth in the 32-team field with 265 points to claim the 10th top-10 national finish in program history (1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 2004, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2024) and compile its highest placement at the national meet since taking fourth in 2015. Junior

Andrew Skemp both earned All-America accolades to give the Oles two All-Americans for the second time in three seasons and the seventh time in program history.
In its 22nd appearance at the NCAA Championship and the 14th time in the last 16 seasons, St. Olaf finished one point ahead of fifth-ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and eight points behind fourth-ranked North Central College in the team standings. The Oles topped two teams ranked ahead of them in the most recent U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national poll in fifth-ranked RPI and ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University.
Turlington and Skemp both claimed their first All-America accolades by being in the top 40 throughout the race, as the duo was separated by less than a second and a half at the finish line. Turlington led the Oles in 23rd (24:32.9) to improve 27 spots on his 50th-place result from last season, while Skemp was four spots behind in 27th (24:34.3) to easily best his previous top national finish of 117th in 2023.
Competing in their first national meet, juniors
Ignatius Fitzgerald and
Gael Manzur Strandlund both placed in the top 100, with Fitzgerald in 68th (24:59.4) and Manzur Strandlund in 89th (25:08.5). Manzur Strandlund was in the back half of the field in 180th place at the four-kilometer mark before jumping up into the top 100 over the second half of the race.
Senior
Sean Hartney rounded out St. Olaf's five counting scores in 127th (25:22.0), which marked a 22-spot improvement from last season. Juniors
Jack Deaver and
Parker Max finished 230th (25:58.6) and 279th (26:48.0), respectively, in their first NCAA Championship event.
