NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's and women's cross country teams both posted perfect scores of 15 points to defeat Macalester College in the AECMR and Cannon River Closer 5K races on Thursday evening at St. Olaf Cross Country Course.
The St. Olaf men's and women's teams both had the top-five individual finishers, with the women sweeping the top-10 places, on their way to topping Macalester in the season-ending race for the majority of both the programs. The annual race consists of runners who will not be competing at the upcoming NCAA Division III North Region Championships.
On the women's side, senior
Jules Fromm posted the top time of the day by nearly 17 seconds with a winning time of 19:08.6 to lead the top-10 sweep. First years Safiya Ait-Ali and
Louisa Lamarre were separated by just over a second in second and third, respectively, while sophomore
Kathleen Madden and first year
Arabella England completed the top five.
On the men's side, sophomore
Alex Bjork was the top finisher in 15:44.50, crossing the line nearly 15 seconds ahead of senior
Olaf Coffey. Junior
Angelo Fiataruolo was just over two seconds behind Coffey in 16:00.40, while junior Jackson March and sophomore
Quinn McCabe were less than two seconds apart to round out the top five.
St. Olaf's teams will head across town for the regional meet on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Carleton College's Bill Huyck Championship Course. The women's 6K will begin at 11 a.m. followed by the men's 8K at noon.
