LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The St. Olaf College men's and women's alpine skiing teams closed out the U.S. Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championships with top-eight finishes in the dual slalom on Saturday at Whiteface Mountain.
The St. Olaf women took third out of 17 teams and the men were seventh of 24 teams in the final event of the week. Over the course of the week, the St. Olaf women placed fourth overall in the combined standings after recording top-five performances in all four events. The Ole men were sixth overall with four top-eight event finishes.
Individually, senior
Merumo Ishimaru placed in the top 10 in the individual combined standings by finishing ninth, while junior
Kate Young was 15th. Sophomore
Winter Johnson made it three Oles in the top 30 in 26th. On the men's side, senior
Ethan Ross closed out the week third in the combined standings, while junior
Graham Barwick was 12th.
For the week, the St. Olaf women won the USCSA President's Award for the third season in a row, while the men were second for the second consecutive season. The President's Award is given to the institution with the highest combined finishes across the alpine and Nordic competitions.
