BEND, Ore. – Led by an All-America performance from senior
Kate Young, St. Olaf College women's alpine skiing team opened the U.S. Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championships with a seventh-place finish in the giant slalom on Tuesday at Mt. Bachelor.
Young earned her second consecutive All-America accolade in the giant slalom by finishing 14th in 2:11.49, improving one spot from her 15th-place finish a year ago. The senior's performance led the Oles to seventh as a team in the 27-team field with a combined time of 6:53.05 from its top-three finishers.
Junior
Jessica Stanton was St. Olaf's No. 2 finisher in 41st place (2:18.95), while junior
Sophia Gonzalez was also in the top 50 in 48th (2:22.61). Young, Stanton, and Gonzalez were the only three Oles to finish both runs.
The USCSA National Championships will continue on Wednesday, March 12 with the men's giant slalom.
