DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's and women's alpine skiing teams both placed second in U.S. Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) giant slalom and slalom races on Saturday and Sunday at Spirit Mountain.
St. Olaf placed second to Northern Michigan University in both disciplines for both genders, highlighted by podium finishes from first year
Jackson Reents and senior
Jessica Stanton in the slalom.
On Saturday, senior
Kerem Haymana led four Oles in the top 15 in the men's giant slalom in ninth (50.95), followed by sophomore
Austin Mjanger in 12th (51.87), senior
Wyatt Shultz in 14th (52.13), and first year
Will Sullivan in 15th (52.19). In the women's slalom, Stanton was the runner-up (1:26.85) and was joined in the top 10 by first year
Ellie Mathe in seventh (1:30.06).
Reents was the top finisher for St. Olaf in the men's slalom, leading three Oles in the top 10 in third (1:22.60). First year
Tate Wilker edged Mjanger by two one-hundredths of a second for seventh (1:24.07), while Haymana (12th, 1:27.02), Sullivan (17th, 1:33.13), and senior
Alexander James (19th, 1:37.54) were also in the top 20. Senior
Winter Johnson (8th, 58.57) and Stanton (9th, 58.86) posted top-10 finishes in the women's giant slalom, with Mathe (11th, 59.29) and first year
Eloise Backer (14th, 59.78) also in the top 15.
St. Olaf will turn its attention to the USCSA Regionals on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 14-15 at Marquette Mountain in Marquette, Mich.
