Kelly runs to All-America honors on day one of NCAA Indoor Championships

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Senior Will Kelly earned Second Team All-America honors in the 5,000-meter run as he and classmate Demetri Lord represented the St. Olaf College men's track and field team on day one of the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at Virginia Beach Sports Center.

In his first appearance at the indoor national meet, Kelly finished 14th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:23.34 to collect the third overall All-America accolade of his career. Prior to this season, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) revamped its All-America program to award first-team honors to the top-eight finishers and second-team honors to finishers 9-16.

After sitting 16th at the 4,000-meter mark, Kelly moved up three spots on the next lap before eventually settling for a 14th-place result. The All-America accolade was the first of Kelly's career in track and field, in addition to his two in cross country (13th in 2022, 26th in 2023).

Competing in the heptathlon on the national stage for the second consecutive season, Lord picked up 2,576 over the first four events to sit 17th out of 19 remaining competitors after one dropped out of the competition. The senior recorded his top finish of the day in the first event of day one by placing ninth in the 60-meter dash (7.18) and was no higher than 15th in the remaining three events.

The final day of the heptathlon gets under way with the 60-meter hurdles at 9 a.m. CST on Saturday, March 9.
