Track and field teams win 12 events at Ole Open

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's and women's track and field teams combined for 12 first-place finishes at the Ole Open on Saturday afternoon at Manitou Track in their final preparations for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Highlighted by wins from senior Karla Kroschel in the 200-meter dash and junior Linnea Askegaard in the pole vault that ranked on its all-time top-10 list, the St. Olaf women picked up seven victories in individual events from six different student-athletes. The St. Olaf men had four individuals win events and placed first in the 4x100-meter relay at the unscored meet.

Askegaard was the lone Ole on the day to win two individual events, doing so in the pole vault (3.20m, 10' 6") and the 400-meter hurdles (1:11.70). The junior's clearance of 3.20 meters in the pole vault moved Askegaard into a tie for seventh on St. Olaf's all-time list in the event.

Kroschel shaved one one-hundredth of a second off her sixth-best time on St. Olaf's all-time list in the 200-meter dash with a winning time of 25.82 seconds. That time is the fifth-fastest in the MIAC this season. In her first collegiate high jump competition, sophomore Ashlyn Jore produced the fourth-best clearance in the conference this season by clearing 1.56 meters (5' 1 ¼"), while senior Ainslee Parker added a win in the triple jump (10.53m, 34' 6 ¾").

St. Olaf got first-place finishes in the throws from first year Graycee Roubinek and sophomore Aries Mendez. Roubinek had the day's top throw in the javelin throw (31.79, 104' 3"), while Mendez did so in the discus throw (36.31m, 119' 1").

First year Max Albertson was part of two first-place finishes for the St. Olaf men, winning the triple jump (12.82m, 42' 3/4") and anchoring the Oles' 4x100-meter relay (42.29) that also included junior Devin McNearny, senior Henry Fisher, and senior Jack Fochtman. Sophomore Max Thomas logged a first-place result in the javelin throw (47.91m, 157' 2").

First year Ethan Martel and sophomore Jack McFetridge posted first-place performances on the track, with Martel winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:17.16) and McFetridge crossing the line first in the 3,000-meter run (9:12.44).

The MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 10-11 at Klas Field on the campus of Hamline University.
