Theo Doran has been selected as the St. Olaf College football program's for the National Football Foundation's William V. Campbell Trophy®.
Doran, who is entering his fourth season as St. Olaf's starting quarterback, was nominated for the award, which is given to the nation's top football scholar-athlete. In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must be a senior in their final year of playing eligibility or a graduated player, must hold a minimum cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, must be a starter or significant contributor, and must show exemplary leadership in the classroom, on campus, and within the community.
"Theo has been a four-year starter in our program and has been a leader on our team since then as well," said St. Olaf Head Football Coach
James Kilian. "The unique thing about Theo is that he goes out of his way to make sure to connect with the young guys and make them feel connected to the team. He's always concerned about others than himself."
A chemistry major with a concentration in educational studies, Doran will graduate in May 2025 and plans to pursue a postgraduate degree in environmental chemistry. He has started 26 of the 28 games he has played in at St. Olaf, completing 436-of-775 passes for 6,215 yards with 49 touchdowns and 25 interceptions while also rushing for nine touchdowns. Doran put together is top statistical season as a junior in 2023, going 209-for-328 for 2,822 yards with 27 total touchdowns (22 passing, five rushing) and eight interceptions.
For his career, Doran is currently St. Olaf's all-time leader in passing yards per game (222.0) while ranking second in total offense per game (226.4), third in passing touchdowns (49), third in total offense (6,340), third in touchdowns responsible for (58), third in yards per attempt (8.0), fourth in completions (436), fourth in passing yards (6,215), fourth in passing efficiency (138.0), fourth in yards per completion (14.2), fifth in attempts (775), and ninth in completion percentage (56.3).
The semifinalists for the Campbell Trophy® are tentatively scheduled to be announced on Sept. 25. Finalists for the Campbell Trophy®, or members of the National Scholar-Athlete Class presented by Fidelity Investments, will each receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship and will be honored guests in Las Vegas for a two-night stay at the ARIA Resort & Casino. Their career achievements will be showcased at the NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Tuesday, Dec. 10, alongside the 2024 College Football Hall of Fame inductees. The Campbell Trophy® recipient, whose scholarship earnings will increase to $25,000, will also be recognized during the
Home Depot College Football Awards Show and honored at two in-person events in New York City.
